South Donegal Draughts Club News

As the tournament reaches the half-way stage, some fiercely contested games were played last Monday night as players were going all out for those very important points to ensure a place in the winners enclosure.

Sion Mills’s Shane McCosker was always the bookies favourite to win the masters division and I am afraid that they may be right once again as he is now a clear leader on 12 points. Local man Alan Ramsey may have other ideas as he was always respected as the king of draughts in the North West and has not yet been defeated in this competition. Alan is in joint second place on 10 points and accompanied by rank outsider Gerald Callaghan from Buncrana. Strabane’s Tommy Canning is on 9 points and always a strong player under pressure.

It is Buncrana’s Danny Doherty and Stranorlar’s Cathal McCafferty who are making the headlines in the senior division. Both players are on 12 points apiece but are closely followed by Moville’s Brian Lafferty and Buncrana’s Liam Kelly senior and Liam Kelly junior.

Play continues every Monday night in Biddy’s at 8.30 pm.
